Who is the Gorilla Tamer?
The Gorilla Tamer
Hello. My name is Patience Burke. I’m an attorney with experience working in government, the nonprofit realm, and the private sector. My expertise includes both the legislative process, as well as executive branch policy-making. I have a special knack for environmental issues, but am increasingly interested in government ethics.
For some time, I have wanted to put pen to paper – or fingers to keypads – and offer my insight on how our government operates. I have transitioned from a place of frustrated and (somewhat) ignorant finger pointing, to a position of (still) frustrated, but wiser constructive criticism. My time in this field has given depth to my perception, and enabled me to have a more objective and consensus building voice. I hope that comes through in my writing.
There is a great deal to be upset about, but that does us no good unless we channel that angst into the development of solutions with which everyone can live. We share this planet. We can either duke it out and walk around bruised and bloodied – or we can talk through our problems and work to find ourselves in a better place.
There is something about being human that gives us all one big common denominator from which to work. If we start there, rather than focusing on our relatively few actual differences, we can better understand and appreciate one another.
That is the essence of TameTheGorilla.com. Frank commentary in promotion of constructive compromise. It’s about the process and how we treat one another. It’s about not taking for oneself at the expense of another. I may offer my opinion from time to time, but please feel free to respectfully disagree. That’s the whole point of this…to start talking and working towards a productive future we can feel good about leaving for the next generation.
The Name: Tame the Gorilla?
The 800-pound gorilla in the room. The thing that’s too big to fail or too hard to conquer. The thing we ignore in favor of the token low hanging fruit. This gorilla – the dysfunction in our government and the acquiescence of too many citizens – needs to be tamed.
Thank you for your time and interest. I really do appreciate it. Remember – together, we can.
